Dr. Toireas Moriarty

Dr Toiréas Moriarty, who hails from Dingle, County Kerry, initially came to Galway to
study, and stayed after graduating MB BCh BAO from NUIG graduated in 2009. She then
completed her MICGP on the Mid-Western GP Training Scheme in 2015.

She loves what she does, explaining: “As a GP, you get to provide holistic care for your
patients and develop a relationship with them over time.”

Harbouring a particular interest in women's health, contraception and family planning,
Toiréas holds a specialised contraception certificate, and is a certified ICGP cervical tester
with Ireland’s Cervical Check programme. In addition, she is passionate about mental health
and medical student teaching, and holds a European Certificate in Palliative Care.
And she is still learning.

“Every day provides different challenges and new learning opportunities,” she says. “No two
days are the same.”  If Toiréas could give but one piece of advice it would be to get some sleep, please, because, “sleep is so important for your mental and physical health.”  Perhaps it’s a giveaway that she has a toddler son at home!
