Root Canal Treatments

A root canal treatment is carried out on a  tooth that is heavily decayed and where bacteria has entered the inner part of the tooth, the pulp, which eventually kills the tooth.

When this occurs, a root canal treatment can be done to clean out and disinfect the damaged tooth, which is then filled with a specialist material. Dependent on the severity of damage to the tooth, it can then either be filled with composite filling material or a crown may be needed.

Teeth with complex or multiple root structures are generally treated by specialist dentists, called Endodontists, while often smaller teeth can be treated by general dentists.

Treatment can take more than one visit, dependent on the level of infection in the tooth and the complexity of treatment needed.
