Psychiatry Services

Psychiatry entails your mental health, and a psychiatrist can not only diagnose mental health
disorders, but can prescribe medication to treat it.
 
Veteran psychiatrist Dr John Griffin provides expert psychiatry services, specialising in eating disorders and medical-legal work, at Ranelagh Medical. Dr John set up the first national eating disorder unit in Ireland, treating patients from age twelve upwards, and has written many papers and lectured extensively both nationally and internationally. He works in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry.


After qualifying in 1970, Dr. John interned at Galway University Hospital, and worked in The Rotunda Hospital in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, taking an L.M (Licentiate in Medicine). In 1972, he moved to St. Patrick's University Hospital, where he worked for almost 40 years as a general adult psychiatrist, specialising in eating disorders.

He studied child and adolescent psychiatry in Dublin, Queen Mary's Hospital Carshalton in Surrey, Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and the University of Bristol.

New patients are welcome, and can be seen at short notice at Ranelagh Medical, Dublin 6.
