Dr. Caroline Tansey
Dr Tansey is an experienced GP and keen clinician who is a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway. A member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, she has a wealth of experience in looking after her patients and their families, having worked as a GP for the last 25 years. After qualifying, Dr Tansey gained many years of hospital experience in university teaching hospitals in both Dublin and Galway. In 1998 she founded Wine Street Medical Centre.
Her post-graduate qualifications include a Diploma in Public Heath Medicine from UCD, a Diploma in Medicine of the Elderly from Trinity College, a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from RCPI, a Diploma in Children’s Health from UCD, a Diploma in Dermatology from the University of Cardiff , UK and a Diploma in the Management of Diabetes Mellitus from the University of Bradford, UK.
Dr Tansey has a particular interest in Women’s Health and Occupational Health. She has specialist training in the provision of Long Acting Contraceptive (LARC) devices. She is a member of the Irish Travel Vaccination Society and provides a Travel Vaccine service that had HSE authorisation to provide the Yellow Fever vaccine.
Dr Tansey is committed to Medical Education and has been a GP trainer with the Sligo GP Training Scheme for the past 20 years. She is also an examiner for Membership exams with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP).
Dr Tansey has a strong social conscience and is committed to improving the health and lives of the local community in Sligo. She is a board member of the registered charity “Friends of Sligo University Hospital”. In conjunction with RTÉ Operation Transformation, she also participated in the “Free Screening Initiative” for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Dr Tansey has a professional but friendly approach and enjoys providing gold standard, evidence-based healthcare to all of her patients and their families.
